Lyme Hall in Lyme Park, Disley, CheshireA beautiful park, with some historic buildings within, including Lyme Hall, a 16th century stately home (heavily modified). It has a Deer sanctuary, here you can see Red Deer and Fallow Deer. Woods, meadows, lake, gardens, lots of open space to have a long walk, and a variety of birds and wildlife to see. My only reservation is it is expensive if you want to visit regulary, especially the car entrance fee if you are travelling by car (get there early and you might even get in free). Then there are charges for just about everything else, unless you are a National Trust member.

It does make for a nice picnic and lovely day out though, best when the sun is out.

The park has several listed buildings, these include Lyme Cage, originally a hunting tower, The Lantern. the Pheasant House, the Orangery, many buildings have undergone extensive restoration over the years.

The park was used in the 1995 production of Pride and Prejudice starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, Lyme Hall was used as Pemberley House.

Red Deer at Lyme Park

The deer park has been around since the 14th century, much of the tree lined avenues that can be seen today were designed around the 17th century. There are 2 types of Deer, the Red Deer and the smaller Fallow Deer, the fallow deer are in a seperate part of the park surrounded by a wall. There used to also be an unsual white breed of highland cattle that became extinct in the 19th century.
